With a permanent population of 132 residents, Nymfaio has competed for the International Melina Merkouri Award, handed by UNESCO, for its excellent management of cultural reserve and natural environment.

The airport of Thessaloniki is about 180 km from the settlement, roughly a 2-hour drive. Although you cannot traditionally use your car inside the village, Villa Arcturia sits just next to one of the two large designated parking areas, which makes everything easier for excursions to nearby destinations.
